Android – Make system update notification go away!

I’m getting more than a bit annoyed with the 4.4.3 update being pushed on me. I used to be a happy Android owner who updated my devices every time Google pushed a new update because I am a glutton.

My Nexus 7 used to perform on par with an iPad, Now it runs like an old 486. Factory resets do not help.

Needless to say, I’m not interested in having my future devices made obsolete over-the-air and will not be updating them. Google has been harassing me for weeks with notifications that I should download and install 4.4.3 but I’m not giving in. The icon has been hovering there, just waiting for me to accidentally click on it.

Until now.

Go into your Android settings.
Click on apps.
Swipe right to “all”.
Click on “Google services framework” and uncheck “notifications”.

Thanks, Anderson2!

Update: Well, this trick does get rid of the system update notification, but it also cripples Hangouts and probably some other apps that depend on Google services too. Back to just dealing with it until I get around to rooting it…
